I have gone back to my roots in flying! I recently ordered up and assembled a new Multiplex AcroMaster! This will be my third one and I've set this one up as a night flyer too! As some may remember, this was my first 3D plane a few years back and I decided that I wanted another one!

They truly are the best flying foam plane out there in this genre and the fact that they're made from Multiplex's Elapor foam makes them even better! For those that don't know about Elapor, it is a type of foam that works best with regular CA glue. No need for foam-safe here! Just regular CA and kicker! Repairs can be done very quickly, if needed! They are a kit and multiplex does make a power system for them as well, although mine has an old system from Extreme Flight: an Airboss 35A esc and a Torque motor (can't remember which one but it's only good to 3s). I'm using a 12x6 prop on it presently because that's all I had on hand when I put it together. My older ones used 13x6.5, but I believe now that that may have been overkill.

On the current system it will hover just a tick above half-throttle and it has good punch out. I have yet to test the wattage but will likely do that next time out. Doing the math, the peak wattage on a new battery would be somewhere around 440, but it would likely reside more in the 380 peak range most of the time. Not too bad because the specs say it will be somewhere in the 32-36 ounce range. I believe my setup, including lights is likely down closer to the 32oz or less range because I'm running a much smaller than recommended battery. Multiplex calls for a 2100-3200 3s and I'm running 1300s and 1500s. I set my timer for 5 minutes and so far my packs are taking in about 1000mah with mixed 3D flying including a few vertical climbs to enter blenders and spins and lots of hovering.

Because the plane is a kit you are able to install the LEDs as you put it together, and because the plane is white foam and mostly hollow it glows with the lights inside! Some have probably seen Eric Johnson's night-flying Acromaster, locally. Mine is similar but probably not quite as bright as his and not nearly as complicated. I just plug my lights in and go. Eric's is really cool with brushed ESCs powering the lights that allow him to switch stuff on and off from the transmitter!

I had a chance to get 5 flights in today while the wind was very calm and this plane is actually more fun than I remember! This is probably because my skills are much better than when I had my last one 4 years ago, but it really is a joy to fly! Because I've built it so light it really floats around. Any amount of headwind and the plane can sit nearly stationary at very low throttle and still stay aloft. It needs very little speed and can land at a crawl!

Long story, longer, the AcroMaster flies again! I'm going to do the maiden night-flight this evening!
I will be doing a review for Great Hobbies on this model...but my initial impression can be summed up in one word: AWESOME!!!!:)

Like the Habu 32...the engineering, kit quality and parts fit is over the top! ...In just 3-4 hours most of the assembly work is complete. I LOVE these Platinum Series EDFs!

I am building it to stock:

Power System:

EFlite Delta V rotor/shroud
EFlite DF 32 Inrunner motor
CC 100A ESC
Team Great Hobbies 6S-5000mAh 50C lipo

Controls:

Spektrum AR8000
Savox 256 (x3 - Elevator, Rudder, Nosewheel)
Savox 254 (x4 - Ailerons and Flaps)

EFlite electric retracts (great retracts!).

...I will debut the Phantom at the Rideau Flyers EDF event June 16-17...and then I will go Habu Hunting...especially the foamie Habus...easy to sneek up on...even without Sparrows and Sidewinders.:D
