I just stumbled over this. Since I hadn't ever seen the full scale Katana I thought maybe others hadn't either.
Anyways... this is what we Funtana guys are supposed to be flying. Like all semi-scale models the model version has been stretched and the wing position adjusted.

I think the bigger kit by Exclusive Modellbau from Germany is a little closer to actual scale. That can't be enough elevator in this pic?!?

I noticed the lack of elevator too. I guess being so shortly coupled like that (read stubby fuselage) they can get away with such a little one. Also, CG placement plays a large role in how much elevator you need.
Site says the aircraft is good for +/-10Gs:eek: so I'm guessing they have enough elevator to reach that if they wanted (or else why build the strength for 10Gs).
The other thing that surprised me was the lack of aerodynamic balancing on the elevators. (the tabs on the outboard section of the elevator forward of the hinge line) You'd think they put it in to help keep the stick forces light.
It does look like their trim tab is also acting like a balance tab though. Notice how with the elevator full down, the trim tab is full up. They mechanically gear the tab so that it helps you push the control surface. A pretty neat idea. (I know your typhoon 2+2 has that feature on the rudder). I guess they get enough of a balancing effect from the trim tab.
Isn't looking at airplane pictures fun! :D
