Hello, my engine hasn't run in at least 4 or 5 years.
Is there anything special I should do to it before I try and start it???

What type of engine? Was it running okay when it was put away? What type of work was done on it before it went away? Not very much information to work with.
A good inspection of the front and rear bearings, replace and carb hose and fuel lines that have probably rotted, flush out carb with fresh fuel check under the head for gum buildup, check for stiff or cooked o-rings. New glow plug, try it out on a test stand once you are sure nothing is rusted up or loose (loose metal insde kills an engine very quickly )
Better yet, bring it by an instructor, maybe on Wed night at the ORCC and have an experienced set of eyes give it a once over.

It's an O.S 46.
It was running great the last time I went out. It hasn't flown more than 3 or 4 times. Never had a chance to get my wings, no time...

Thanks

How do the bearings feel? Turn the prop slowly and feel for any grinding. It should be smooth and quiet. One thing that can hurt stored engines is if they were left with unburned fuel inside instead of having after-run or light oil worked in.

Mount in on something that can be clamped to a picnic table, and bring it out on Wednesday night. Don't forget to add a pushrod of some sort to the throttle linkage, and strap down a fuel tank somehow.
