Well... the old "Franken-Toro" has gone to that big flying-field in the sky.
It was a problem with the thumb-eye co-ordination

Now I have to change my avatar.

The coroplast wing survived with minor bumps and kinks, but the balsa fuselage was smashed pretty much from the tail-wheel forwards. Oh well. I was fun while it lasted. Frees up some room in the workshop for the four other projects under way.

The motor still looks ok I think. If so then I should probably be able to mount it in Comptaur and maiden it in a few days.

Wow, "from the tail wheel forward" that leaves about an inch or so of intact fuselage? That sounds like it hit pretty hard .

NICE!!! maybe we'll actually be able to have a pleasant conversation at the field now without that 100dB muffler whining at us!!!

I think you're incorrect about the motor. It looks to me like the crankshaft is a little bent. I wouldn't risk running it!

Sorry for your loss. We've all been there.

It went straight down into the pit. Kelly spotted it on the gravel about 50 feet from one of the ponds. This model had a P51-style tail wheel ahead of the horizontal stabilizer. Actually the turtle deck was intact up to the rear of the wing, but the bottom sheet of the fuselage was torn off from the back of the wing to the tailwheel. The tail assembly was intact. When Kelly first spotted the debris all that could be seen was the wing and the tail.

But don't worry Tom. I think the motor is not as bad as it looks (or sounds??)

No...I agree with Tom...it was pretty bad (loud)... ;)

So...you need a new avatar...I actually read this first as "Avistar"! D'oh! Will it feature Coro-plast???

...We've nicknamed you over the years as:

1) Coro-Mike

2) Balsa-Mike

3) Deadstick-Mike

4) VP-Mike

...Will we need to dream up a new handle for you too??? ...We can get to work right away on this if need be... :D

I think we need to keep track how long mike keep his nick names, alone with brief description.:)

Nantha...I think the nicknames are pretty "self-explanatory"!

Mike's averaging about one new nickname per year...he's such a "dynamic" guy! :D

"Dynamic-Mike"????

I'd change that to
Dyna-Mike sounds more explosive like his crash!

John.... I think we should name him this time as Dyna-Mike  as suggested by Sev. Good suggestion Sev

Fortunately, the motor is once again purring nicely. All it needed was washing out of the dirt and gravel, and some filing down of some bumps and nicks in the carborateur assembly so that the barrel could start rotating again. It seems to work well now.

This is my new airplane. The RCM plans from 1975 were for the CompTaur, but it has been modified somewhat. It only vaguely resembles the picture in the 1975 RCM magazine now. 68 inches wingspan and slightly over 8 pounds. I must have started building it in 1979 or 1980. Just finished it today. My wife Lucette encouraged me to name it after her. I've named it LuTaur.

In the air it was very easy to control (compared to some of my other airplanes, that is). I simply circled a bit then tried a few rolls. No loops yet, but soon. It wanted to float a lot when I landed. I'll have to fly it again soon :)

That's great, Mike...what it's name is it looks good...maybe I'll see it at the field tomorrow morning...

68"...it isn't Giant Scale...and it doesn't have floats...come on...time is running out for you on both counts...

...Also...I see your ignoring our ramble about your nickname(s)...probably wise...;)

Fortunately,...

Well THAT all depends on your point of view.

...the motor is once again purring nicely.

and the use of the word "purring" here... is debatable.

....I see your ignoring our ramble about your nickname(s)...

Hmmm, let's see...

"Intrepid" is inappropriate because I'm nevous about too many things, and "Enigma" won't do either because my motives are too transparent....

Hmmm....

This airplane flies nicely.

Thanks for the picture Bill!
