I picked up this limited production (less than 40) Yak-54 kit after reading the rc groups thread below.

I really like building and this one seamed like the perfect candidate for a winter build project.
The build started last week and framing was very simple. It took me one night for the fuselage, and two more nights for the wings and control surfaces.

Building was a lot of fun and reminded me of a Steven's Aero Kit I built late last summer.
I'll show some more pictures in a few weeks when I get the covering done. I really want this one to come out looking great so I haven't decided on a covering scheme yet.

The Yak will be powered by an Eflite Power 32 running on a 4S Lipo (probably Thunder Power Extreme 3850mah). With an APC-E 13 x 6.5 prop I should get around 700 watts of power. For speed control I decided on a CC Phoenix 80 which is a little overkill but for a very small weight penalty.. I like the ease of mind plus I'll be able to use it in other larger applications in the future. The receiver will be a Sombra Labs Lepton 5 using a separate 6V BEC for power. This is required because the speed control's BEC can only handle up to 3S lipo.

I finally decided on a covering scheme for this bird. I looked online and tried to find a full scale Yak-54 with a suitable covering scheme. I came upon the Yak-54 owned by Daniel Pasquelin from Australia. I really liked the simplicity of this scheme along with it's roots as a russian aircraft. (the red star)
I could only find 1 picture of his aircraft and didn't have views from the bottom. I did an extensive search online and finally found some contact information. I emailed him a request and now... he's sent me many pictures from all angles. In return.. I told him i'd send some pictures of my finished rc model.
I'm really excited about this and started covering last night. I'll post pictures of my model when it gets done... but for now here is the only picture I could find online.

The other pictures I can't share at this time as I didn't ask permission.
This is my first attempt at a semi-scale bird and I'm enjoying the research necessary to achieve this.
