Hi all,

I was out tonight trimming the hedges with my blades due to a small amount of wind and ( this happened before the trimming ) - twice there was a short almost total loss of power - about the time it takes to snap your fingers - and then it was right back ??? - heli dropped about a foot and bang, right back up again....

Pack was fresh, transmitter batteries fresh ( all lights on ), pack connection tight, antenna ( transmitter ) extended - gyro was green before flight - I don't get it.... anyone experienced anything like this ?

I am not aware ( almost positive ) of anyone else in the neighborhood with r/c gear - certainly not aerial if they do...

there was no other loss of control..

I was about 15 feet away from the CP when it occurred ( so not too close )..

any thoughts welcome ( at least hedges don't wreck blades :D )

Hi Warren,

I'd check your electrical connections from the battery to the 4 in 1 unit or from the unit to your motor... Did the bird spin around when you lost power? If so it means it may be a faulty connection on your main motor (thus the tail motor had full power, causing you to spin) or was it power loss all together?

Hi Adam,

Nope. no spin around, it was as if somone was standing right over it and hit it with their fist - it was about 7 feet off the ground, then took a 1 foot drop, and right back up again - all connections were tight - no idea - I was wondering if it had happened to anyone else at some point - - - - -

if the wind dies down abit more tonight, I will take it out again, still messing around with the setup ( pots ) I think that I just about have it right :)

I have been looking at "superskids" ( http://www.super-skids.com/main.htm ) for the little beast, but they are currently out of stock, I am also looking for a stronger boom setup ( with braces ).....

speaking of which, did you get yours back together ??

Yeah, in strong winds the altitude can change pretty strongly. In calm wind check it again if it still does that then it is definitely the swashplate needing lube (or replacement). I think mine is up for replacement as I've abused it raming the drive gear shaft through...

Yeah, I got it repaired but I need to replace the drive gear shaft (again!) and a new set of blades... She's fly-able but it's not pretty. ;)

Hey Adam,

I might have figured it out, will have to wait for calmer conditions to test my theory - - can't get that too much lift in the house - to many things to wack..........

while looking for answers I stumbled onto this -->

thought it might be useful info for you to look at (file for future reference) :)

ya never know..

It is possible this is the problem but I am going to gander that it had something to do with the wind.

I am flying a blade as well and I have experienced similar effects but it was the wind throwing it around while I was trying to stay stationary.

In fact, most of my flights have been in high wind and it definately is not the way I recommend most to learn haha...

Hi Mike,

It hasn't happened again, so I'm going to pass it off as one of those flukey electronic glitches...... it happened in a wink ( really ) so I am not totally sure that it was wind related - -

You must have rather quick reflexes, cause it doesn't take any wind at all before I am trimming the hedges - here's hoping for a nice quiet fall - maybe I won't need the old leaf blower this year :D

If youre looking for super landing gear you might wanna check www.helidirect.com They have nice setups as well and ship fast. I got mine in 5 days. Just buy the unassembled kit cuz its real easy to put together and only 12 bucks. 7 cheaper than getting the assembled kit.

Thanks for the info, I had already placed my order for some superskids before I saw it :( appreciate it all the same - - I think that what I need is something about the size of large sneakers rather than landing or should I say crashing gear :D

it's all a matter of patience and blades, LOTS of blades :) I really have to give those guys credit, they do build an incredibly durable machine !!

Glad your having fun Warren!

I am happy to say that I had my first 200'+ flight tonight and it was awesome. Finally giving this puppy a work out!!! I am hoping in a month or so(before it gets cold) that I can do nose in comfortably and then start in with some tricks.

If I got that far off at the moment, I would have to change my pants - I had a little 6 foot mishap tonight that blew off some blade grip assembly parts, so, it's "off to the store I go" - should be up again by tomorrow ( I hope )..... I'm starting to wonder about some aluminum parts :D

Here's to a looooooooooong "indian summer" type of "fall" weather :)
