Just wanted to know if anyone else is flying these birds in the ottawa area?
......if so... I would like to know what people are using in their set up..
I would also like to fly with other heli pilots in the area at local fields....Im not a member of any club yet as I just started flying a couple of months ago.
I would love to meet new heli pilots so I can learn more about this awesome hobby!
Thanx, Philie

Hi Philie:
There are three clubs you should look at for Heli flying in Ottawa. They are:

Ottawa Rotary Wing Flyers - Heli only club in south end of town
Ottawa RC Club - Mixed flying club with main field on west side of town
Stetson Flyers - Mixed flying club with field on east side of town

All of the clubs are great and most of the members of the ORWF are also members of one of the two other clubs. It usually comes down to where in town you are. I don't know of any other Swifts in town but I do know there are a lot of Century machines being flown at all the clubs and they tend to share common design principles. The Raven and Falcon heads look like a small version of my Predator 70 head with the same links and layouts.

You will need to join MAAC (http://www.maac.ca) to fly at any of the clubs, even as a guest, and most of the clubs will want you to join after one or two visits. We have a big heli event coming up this month on the 12th at the Stetsons field and if you can get your MAAC (http://www.maac.ca) before then you would be welcome to come out and fly, if not come out and spectate and see what is going on. There will also be agroup of us at the Stetsons field tomorrow morning and I will be at the ORCC Drummond field monday morning (weather and house chores permitting).

My personal fleet is currently:
Heli-Max MX-400 running a Mega 16/15/3 and a CC35, some bling
Raptor 50V2SE OS Hyper 50 with some link upgrades
Predator 70 OS 70SZH forward servo kit and push/pull upgrades

PS I would love to see the Swift fly, the electric technology is coming along so quickly.

Hi cgroves and phillie,

I'm a lurking heli flyer as well (no club yet). Got the bug last fall with a dragonfly, and then an MX400 (Neu1105-3y/CC35) and then a maxir SE. So far I've only been flying around my house, yard or deserted parks.

I think I'll at least drop into the funfly next weekend. But I might try to get my MAAC membership arranged before then. I see that there is a promotion for new members - does anyone want to "sponsor" me ... it looks like you would be entered in a draw to have your dues payed for for a year ...

Cheers,
Derek.

For your MAAC ins you could drop by Discount Hobbies and fill out the maac form and pay your MAAC fees and your covered one the spot.

Morning Philie

This is a quote from the RC Canada web site. So please don't pass up this Swift opportunity on the 12 Aug at the Stetson field.

cheers
don dow

"HI Don,

Yes, I have the tickets booked for myself and a fellow west coaster. Due to the limited luggage alowed via airtravel, we will probably only be bringing two electrics (Swift 4S and 6S), a 30 size (Hawk Pro) and a 60 or 90 size (Predator 60 or Max).

Phil

Thanks for all the info everyone. I will be attending the heli event but due to an unforseen crash today, I will just be a spectator. It will be a couple of weeks before I can get all parts needed for repair! As for maac, I just might wait till next season to sign up so I can take advantage of the whole season of flying......and have better piloting skills so people won't be ducking for cover

Look forward to meeting everyone at the event next weekend. Cheers!

Oh yeah, I even signal others that I am about to crash. When I starting moving my body around instead of just the sticks it is time to take cover.

Yep clean snap! Wanted to get the metal head but All three places I order from were out of stock! So I ordered the plastic head for now but when I switch to M1 cells (36v!) I will definitely be switching to metal!
I have heard of the plastic head snapping in extreme 3D!

I want to bounce if you now what I mean;)

This crash approximately (US$)

Crash kit $35
plastic head $8
main blade grips $9
cf fin set $8 = $119.00+shipping/tax
Tail boom supports$9
9254 servo case $7 Not bad!
tail rotor shaft $6
body (cracked in crash) $21 with canopy Last crash was more!
push rod set $8 (+ stripped gears, radio tray,
ball link set $8 landing gear, antenna,
flybar paddles)

Damn, that's a nasty fall, Phil, didn't realize that one was the one you were talking about! Give me a call when you've got the bird back up, we can go terrorize the neighborhood. :)
