Hey Gang,
*****I just received confirmation today that one demo pilot from Century Helicopter will be joining us for the event.*****
I just wanted to remind everyone that the Stetson Flyers will be host a heli only fun fly on August 12th.
As we're in the process of planning the event I'd like to get a show of hands on who's planning to attend. As well if you have any suggestions for some fun events we can run through the day I'm open to suggestion.
See you there

You can download a poster for the event here (http://www.rcaviator.ca/downloads/heli_funfly_poster.pdf). Print it out and post it at your local hobbyshop or clubhouse if you'd like.
See you there.

Woooooooooohooooooo:p. I'll be there. I have some quick demo flights in the morning for the ORCC event and then I am rushing over to the Stetson's for the whirly bird festival. I should have my Predator, MX-400, Raptor50SE all there along with my real-time onboard camera. What are other heli pilots bringing?

I shall be coming although it may be as a spectator only as I'm not certain if I will have my MAAC insurance by that point.
Otherwise I have a little Blade CP that I'm eager to fly with others.

Fortunately Eric Dainty does not have to go to Arizona for that weekend. Look him up as he can fly any thing.

The scRaptor 50 is good to go with the new body frame, landing gear, and header tank. Just need to replace the fuel lines on the Predator and we are good-to-go :D. Start to get real exciting being just over a week away .
One good event would be to string some tissue-paper across the runway as a set of obstacles that people need to go over, then under, etc. Spot autorotation contests are always fun. We could also put some zip-tie loops on styrofoam balls and use the skids to pick them up and place them on targets.

I'm game to try anything as you can tell from this photo.

Thankfully Ed tells me my new rig is built. I'll need to get it in the air this weekend and tweek it.

Oooouch, what happened:(? It doesn't look too bad, standard replacement fo boom-n'-blades. What else was broken?

I tried my first loop. I didn't quite make it. It was really strange actually. I got about 3/4 of the way through the loop and the heli seemed to go into a tumble and I couldn't get it back in time.
The pic doesn't show it but it was pretty bad. The frames were wrecked, the clutch exploded, part of the head was shot, broken landing gear.......blah blah blah. I only salvaged a handful of parts.
Since I was already running a 46 in this hawk and it looked like it was going to be a total re-kit I decided to upgrade to a Raven.
I wish I knew what happened though.

Ahh yes, the dreaded figure 9 manouvre. Apparently you put a *spin* on the old classic ;). Which axis did it tumble on? Yaw, pitch roll? It sounds like a control link may have let go under high loading since you are at max G in the last 1/4 of a loop. I remember now seeing your clutch at Discount today at lunch, very melted .

Seemed like it tumbled end over end but I'm not really sure.

I know Eric Dainty and yes I will agree he can fly almost anything.
At the Small fun fly he was flying a flapping wing model.

Check out the weather forecast for the weekend. Sunny and 24, perfect weather for a fun fly. Not too hot and not too cold. :D

Is there a schedule of the events at the funfly?
I'll be on my way to Montreal for my vacations after my son's swimming lesson and might drop buy at around 12:00 for an hour. Depending on what's happening, we'll bring a picnic lunch there or have lunch before...

This is your two day warning, the weather is looking really, really nice. Of course at 23C all my mixtures will be off but we can fix that.
I have to give kudos to HeliProz, after my dramatic auto on Sunday when the OS 50 Hyper spat out its carb they were the only people with the carb clamp in stock and got it to me NEXT DAY. Very impressive.
mart242:
I don't think Scott has published a fixed schedule, I would think there is going to be interesting flying all day long.

Shipping must have been quite $$$...

Actually, it wasn't bad. The clamping collar fits inside a standard envelope (really small part) so it is real easy to ship.

I just got my MAAC confirmation this morning, so it looks like I'll be attending! I'm a lurking heli pilot - started last fall. I'll be bringing an MX400 and a Maxir.

Excellent, the more the merrier. We need to ensure a good turnout to schedule future heli events. We should also thank Richard of Discount Hobbies for his support of the event.

So if I put in an online processing for my MAAC insurance and got a confirmation for it, does that mean I'd be able to fly tomorrow?

Adam,
As I understand it - yes (but I'm obviously not the expert - or involved with setting the rules - so if somebody else wants to chime in ....). That is what one of the guys at Discount Hobbies indicated yesterday (I think Richard?).
I put my request in online yesterday and called them as well - explaining that I wanted to attend a funfly this weekend.
There was an additional $5.00 charge to have the confirmation and MAAC number sent to my email address. It came this morning.

I don't know if the online process gives you a card or some sort of proof you can print out right away. Has anyone used the online process?

I processed my application online, called their head office, got called a 'Man' (for leaving things to the last minute) by the secretary. Sweet talked her into processing the application and sending me verification right away... So it's possible.
Good news is I'll be there with my little Blade CP, all fixed and ready to go... Now I just need to install that new set of blades... oh and the tail boom... oh and the tail rotor motor...

I hope I get a chance to drop by...
After getting a h-lock gyro(9g E-flite guy is pretty nice for the bucks) on my blade pro, I have the heli bug...
I hope to make it out and watch for an hour or so.

Too bad Mike, there were some really excellent machines and pilots. It was great to see the turnout of both pilots and spectators. Thanks to everyone who came out and the organizers and supports for a great event. I just wish I could have spent the whole day.

Hey Corey I must have just missed you, we left around 2pm. I didn't get any flying in anyhow on account of the wind and my talent for planting the cp in the ground under such conditions. :) Next time though!

Thanks for the pictures Scott and video Phil!
Looks like a great time!!! Well except for poor Neil, who I see crashed one of his mini heli's!!! :(
I am excited about my heli experiences. I did my first nose in flight without crashing!! I am on my way :)
