Now that was one BIGGG crash!! I wonder what went wrong? Looks like it stalled and dropped a wing. $22,000 down the drain. Oh well... back to the drawing board.

Saw that video when it made the rounds on the forums.

The concensus was that the ailerons were reversed. If you look carefully, you can see the ailerons are deflected in the direction of the roll when it rolls over after take-off.

If it was a tip stall, you wouldn't see the ailerons deflected in that direction, and most likely you'd see them deflected the other way when the panicked pilot (incorrectly) tries to remedy the situation by rolling the other way.

It also looks like the ailerons return to neutral once the aircraft gets to about 90 degrees of roll. This would agree with the reversed ailerons theory when the intrepid aviator realizes that something is very wrong and lets go of the controls.

That's my official TSB report anyways.

OUCH!!! Anyone got any details about this plane. Sure looked impressive. I wonder if it was a little short on power and wasn't at full flying speed. While it didn't appear to be "yanked" off the runway, it sure did drop outta the air quick.

Those folks lining the runway kinda made me think of the crazy spectators watching rally racing from the side of the road :D

Cheers,
Dave

It did look a little short on power. My initial take was that it looked like too agressive of a pilot with touchy roll controls low and slow. Thats a pretty impressive burn rate with about $10,000/second of flight time .

Responding to Tom... You may well be correct in your assessment of the crash. I'm ashamed to say that I am guilty of crashing due to reversed controls. But you'd think that if you put 22 grand into a model (not to mention the work to build it), you'd take the time to make sure the aileron polarity is correct.

You can definitely see the right aileron deflect strongly in a downward motion...can't recall the left side.

I wondered where it was a radio problem...but the aileron doesn't twitch at all...

Bottom line: What a bummer! ...Gorgeous model... :(
