Hi all,

Im rc newbie and just have Blade cp for couple months, doing ok with it but getting tie to wait for perfect calm day to bring it out practic. So any place for me to practic indoor? Also do think should I go with Esky Cool or heli-max 400 so it can handle outside condition. Im in Orleans area the average wind 10-20 km/h. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Hi Cuteo:
I think the MX-400 would be the perfect "next-step" helicopter if you are looking for an electric that can handle a little more wind. The MX-400 is very agile, heavy enough to deal with moderate wind and has great local parts support from both Dynamic and Discount hobbies.

As for indoor practice there is a group flying at an indoor stadium in the east end of town. I believe it is called ThuderDome but I'm not sure. Perhaps one of the regular participants can fill in the details. The Blade CP is also fine flying outside and at least three members of the ORCC fly them at the west-end field when the wind is low and I know two members of the ORWF who have them for outdoor flight.

Sorry to say the indoor season is over for the BIG Domes.

There is a couple of weeks left at the RA center on Saturdays from 12:30pm to 2:30pm or so.

You will need your MAAC and $10 or so if there is room. Usually at this time of year you can get in.

The ORCC club house is a pretty good place, but we only have that until the end of MAY. plus you need to join ORCC/MAAC to fly there.

Hi Guys, sorry to play the role of the rule police but you really shouldn't be flying inside the garage at the West-End field. We will have a relatively sheltered area at the Drummond field to hover in but that is at least a month away since they don't have the grass seeded yet.

Just wondering why we can not fly micro heli inside garage?

The problem is not garages in general but the garage at the ORCC West End field. In order to keep our insurance intact its important people follow the rules of the club site when they are flying there, and one of the specific rules put in place last year is no flying in the garage. The garage doesn't make a very good practice site anyways since it is really small. One of the sports domes would be a much better venue to learn at, or outside when the wind is low.

...I'll add to Corey's feedback. MAAC Field standards (and ORCC West-end field rules and regulations) specify the layout and configuration for flying fields...including the use of identifiable pilots stations, flight lines, pit areas, spectators, etc. ...According to these rules, Corey is right that heli-flying in the garage area would violate these standards. Besides, as he points out, the garage is just too small for safe flying.

...Regardless, we'll be leaving this site at the end of May anyways...so this issue is largely mute.

Sorry,

I did not know about this rule when I suggested the club house.

As I think about it now, not a very good/safe place to fly.

I would never knowingly brake a club safety rule.
