Anyone have experience with these chargers? They seem very capable and a really good price for what you get. Are there any concerns or horror stories?

Apparently, the only people having trouble with this charger are those who don't bother to read the user manual, and/or those who do read it, but choose to ignore its instructions.
Several members of the Rideau club have been using this charger for the past couple of years, with much success.

Musta missed this thread. Just noticed it halfway down the page.

I use a Astro 109, and I love it. There were some issues with the earlier versions of the firmware changing cell count on you, but they fixed that in later versions by freezing the cell count at the end of stage 1.

Very simple to use, Readout gives you very quick and easy indication of how far along in the charge cycle you are.

My only complaints are:
is that the beep is a little louder than I'd like,
the only way to reset the charger is to unplug it from the power supply (which can often be trouble if you have a couple of chargers alligator clipped to one PS),
the charger times out after one hour in stage 2 (constant current stage). This makes it annoying if you want to do a slow charge of one of your packs.
You can only discharge at 1 amp. Again, this makes for a long period of break in if you believe in that sort of thing.

I can show you mine at the field sometime.
