So where exactly are these new ORCC West End Field prospective sites?
Does anyone who was checking them out have Google Earth and could perhaps provide a placemark to them?
(I attached a placemark to the current ORCC field just for fun. However, calmdays won't accept the .kmz file extention. I had to add .txt to the filename. Just delete the .txt from the filename it before you open it).

Hmm, don't recognize a KMZ, what is the application that creates it?

It's a Google Earth Placemark. Google Earth makes it. For those who don't know, Google Earth is essentially Google Maps plus. It's an application you download and run it on your PC. It lets you view satellite imagery overlaid on topography, and then pan/tilt/zoom and rotate to look at the features.
The placemark is Google Earths version of a book mark. If you open it with Google Earth you'll fly to that location on the earth. They happen to use the .kmz extention.
I figured since you can count the picnic tables at the current ORCC field, it might be a good way to get a feel for what the prospective new fields look like in summertime.

Can you post lat/long? Google earth requires windows which I don't run.

I s'pose that'd work too... although not QUITE as much fun  :)
Anyone have the lat/long values for the candidate fields? (Alternately give me street directions, and I'll translate that into lat/long values, and maybe take some Google Earth Screenshots)

I've attached a PDF screenshot of the potential new field. Note the current west end field on the top left.

Greetings all:
Can someone fill me in on this discussion regarding a new ORCC site?
It looks like the new site would be away from the dump. What about the landing strip and orientation away from the sun.

Away from the sun and no power lines would be a big improvement. Along with proper heli pads facing into the prevailing wind and space maybe for a winch/catapult line. I would think we would be better off the further away from the highway we were. The map shows lots of space so this could be a really good thing.

Please understand that the two locations in the image Sev posted are being suggested to us by the City of Ottawa...so it's even premature to think that they are formally offering them to us.
We've had a bit of a chance to visit these sites...and as best we can tell with a foot of snow on the ground, they look like good possibilities. They are large flat fields (different ends of the same basic field, actually), the power lines are quite far away (although still present at one location), and the pilot orientation could look to the north and away from the sun. However, please be aware that we still have a lot of questions and issues to review with the City before we can look seriously at these locations...and we need to know for sure if the City will go ahead with the proposal to construct an incinerator at our present site.
At the last ORCC meeting, it was suggested that it would be wise to continue to search for a new field location regardless of the City's decision regarding our present Trail Road site...in order to have both a back up field...and to have an additional flying site that alleviates the shortcomings our the West-end field and could accommodate larger models, sailplanes, and a better set up for helis.
If you know of a possible location or are willing to be part of the field search committee please contact me. My coordinates are below.

Isn't there a Skeet shooting club around there someplace? We could provide new targets:D :D

I believe it's archery...model airplanes would be good moving targets... :(
Actually, the archery site is a ways away...shouldn't be a prloblem.
