Just a quick question: How many electric helis are planning to show up at the SMALL event? I know of at least two but I was wondering what kind of turnout to expect.

Hey Ken,

Are electrics allowed at the SMALL event?

Good question, my understanding was any Nitro aircraft had to be below the size limit (with no 'downsizing' option) while any electric qualified. Maybe this is something Ken can answer.

The SMALL event has always had electrics E-models - The only restrictions on engine size was strictly for the gas guys to a max .28 That restriction is for both 2 or 4 stroke and allows for multi engine planes. IE a B-17 with 4 .28's would be allowed.

To encourage participation of electric models I've never asked for a restriction on the motor size due to poor performance and heavy batteries that use to plauqe the E-boys.. There not been any complaints from anyone about this yet?

Times are a changing. I may introduce next year a motor restriction to the equivillant E-motor of a .28 size model. Not being into E-models myself I didn't know what that exactly is?

As for E-choppers they are welcomed and gas choppers should still have a max size of .28. Chopper normally fly off the right side of the building over the grass out of the normal flight circuit.

Due to the big numbers of pilots that are expected this year There is no shrinkage fee's anymore. The shrinkage fee thing is not needed anymore to get pilots to come out. We are expecting approx 50 pilots to register.

Word has it that the Grand Raffle Prize this year is a top of line Futaba Radio that has 9 in its tittle. Wow! Fred. My own request about the Multi Raffle draw is people who win once decline if they win again so more people can share in the prizes. My count is around 10 major prizes in that Raffle pot.

Lunch this year is 1/4 chicken diners boxes from Swiss Chalett. Pilots 5$ registration fee is used to buy that lunch. People other registered pilots will need to sign up for the same lunch before approx 10:30 am to get same box lunch.

As per normal there will be a canteen with the normal stuff pop/chips and pepperoni sticks. Free Coffee and timbit for the morning crowd.

Excellent, I guess I better put the T-Rex back together and get ready for some electric flying. I love the smell of LiPo in the morning :D

Uhhh, if you're able to smell your lipos you've either overcharged them or accidentally plugged two batteries into one another. Right Scott?

(Or should we just call you Puff-Daddy?)

Bring out an electric Dave. if you need one I will lend you my Tribute, floppy wings and all. Could even let you use the E-Bug if you're careful LOL

Also I think anybody but you can buy a raffle ticket, don't think you have to be a registered pilot.

Just kidding even you can buy a ticket, you just have to promise not to win LOL.

I have my Twin Star flying again 2 .25fx's sounds sweet.

I thought there was suppose to be an engine size restriction at SMALL,
those 2 engines should be added together:) It does have a nice hum
to it though, and I guess is worth bending the rules if we had to,
should be a nice crowd pleaser, even at the SMALL event if you
do bring it out:D

Nice flights on the weekend with it there Fred, you'll have to practise
keeping both engines running after landing for taxiing:D

I'll have my E-flight Blade and should have my Shogun back in the air.
Not sure if I'll have my MaxiR SE by then though:)

You could have a 8 engine Spruce Goose at the SMALL event - The restriction is not about adding engines together. ie 8 x .25

Each engine has to be a .28 and below for gaser both 2 or 4 stroke.
So Freds Twin Star is legal.

PS - All electrics are welcomed.
PS PS - No shrinkage allowed either.

Well one more heli guy then, I'll bring my dragonfly FP to fly and my 3D pro to hover or fly, still learning how to setup and fly a CP, just had my first lap around a football field today, scared silly buy what a rush!!

Is anyone else flying electric helis in the west end of town?
Right now the parks where I fly there is regularly myself and one other heli pilot, sometimes a 3rd who may be quitting the heli world but would like to get out to fly and share knowledge with more heli pilots.

I think Scott was pulling my leg on the leagle stuff. He knows I told him already LOL

Keeping the engines going after landing was hard due to the fluffy grass at the Redeau field and the short landing gear on the twin star.

Hope to see everybody out for the SMALL event.

Sounds to me like you need to get off that "fluffy grass" Fred.

Hehe, looking forward to seeing that twin fly.

The Twinstar is all set up and ready for the SMALL event.

Engines are running great.

Looking forward to the great paved runway at the ORCC.
