Hi All:
Looking for a level of interest in a helicopter fun fly  next spring. I know we have a large group of heli pilots in the area with everything from micro blades to giant turbine powered varios. I think we should look at getting together an celebrating all things rotary.
Post to signal your interest.
Thanks

Hey Corey,
I really like the idea of a rotary wing fun fly.
I guess now I'll really have to get cracking on my training.:D

That could be interesting but I don't think that you want me flying near anyone else... :) I'd show up to see others fly though and I know a few people that would be interested as well because they're curious to see these things fly.
As for the name, I'm not a big fan of any of these but don't have a better suggestion at the moment...

Every skill level would be welcome, I will bring my personal safety gear :D.

Yeah, they are deliberately pretty bad, that way someone will come up with a good one.

Although not a chopper pilot (yet) I'd definately come and have a look!!
As far as names................ how about "Whirling Blades-o-Death!!" That'd bring in the blood thirsty types for sure!:D

Guys:
The ORCC would be happy to host this event...Corey, or whomever, can let me know.
Since there appears to be interest, I'd suggest that a few of you get together and solidify the plans...pick a date, basic format for the event, etc.
Let me know as soon as you can if you like to make use of the ORCC facilities.
I think a rotary event would be awesome.
Great idea, Corey!!!!

Definitely call the fun-fly Thunderblade...
5....4....3....2...1... THUNDERBLADES ARE GO!!!!! *hums catchy theme song*
Tell ya what... what if I put 10 hours of work/tinkering into one of my planes that week, and then I only hover it for 5 minutes. ;) :p Would that get me in the door? Oooo... and if I have less than perfect landing I'll quickly run out and jump on the plane to simulate the damage done by the usual "flail of death" when a heli crashes.
Sounds like fun... I'd have to get my Blade CP back into airworthy shape.
Tom
Love it !!
Count me in.
No suggestions for the name yet but I will think about it.

Ok, if there is the interest someone will have to step up and take the lead in organizing...guys from the ORCC Exec know me well on this (...and now know to duck and run when making suggestions when I'm around! ;) ). Since chopper pilots are fewer in number and spread out across clubs, the event chairman doesn't necessarily need to be an ORCC member. The important thing is that the event happens in 2006 and heli pilots get to enjoy a rotor-only day of fun! ORCC is offering the west-end field facility and whatever else comes along with it (the BBQ, etc.).
Not to pressure too much but someone needs to step up and take charge, arrange a little committee...and decide on a date quickly...since we are a big club with quite a few events during the flying season, we'll need to know soon. The Exec is meeting tonight and will be setting dates for next season's club events. I can liaise with whomever takes the lead on this to find a suitable date. I can say from experience that organizing a basic fun fly event is not too much work...it all depends on how big and fancy you want to be. My recommendation would be to start small...but not necessarily SMALL like Ken Park's BIG small event! :)
So...come on guys...somebodies gotta take this on ASAP...
Let me know...
John

I know there's some interest in the Stetsons for an event like this. As well, we currently have a lot of space in our summer schedule at the moment. While obviously this would have to go to our membership for a vote (we just had our monthly meeting last night), I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to schedule the event at the Stetson field.
I can think of 3 or 4 of the *ahem* 'more active' members of the Stetsons (People who not only show up to events, but also help out) who are into helis and may be willing to get behind organizing an event like this, and I know I'd be willing to pitch in.
All this to say, if this was going to be proposed to the Stetsons in won't be official for another month (November 29th is our next meeting). I think it's a safe bet it can happen, and the people interested in helping organize it should probably start planning in a general way so that we've got a good idea what we want to put forward as a plan.

No probs, Greg, the ORCC offer is there. I'll mention to the Exec tonight so that they know...just in case.
Maybe the thinking should be that the Stetsons is the likely venue...but that the ORCC is also a possibility of things don't work out with your club.
Sound like a plan?
John
Ps: I'd still suggest that someone take this on regardless of location...just my 2 cents.

Sounds like we won't have any trouble finding a location :D.
I would suggest we talk a little about what we want out of the event first. If we want competitions, involving autos (particularly sliding) we may find we need grass and a large open target area. So lets hear it:
What do people want to see? Scale demonstrations? Skills competitions? Open format heli flying all day long?
Have at it.

FYI...I reviewed this with the ORCC Exec last night. There was support to use the West-end field if needed.
If you do go with the ORCC facility and the event director is from another club I would be happy to serve as the liaison with the ORCC (unless another ORCC member wants to do it).
It sounds like the final location might be the Stetsons...but regardless, you can keep the ORCC field option in your back pocket (so to speak) just in case.

Okay, it looks like we have a heli fun-fly happening at Stetsons which gives us the grass we need for auto comps etc. It is tentatively for August 13th/14th weekend and more details to follow. Give some though to competitions, limbo, spot autos, etc.

Well, a Heli fun fly was approved at the last Stetson meeting. I don't recall the date off-hand... I'm surprised Scotty hasn't posted anything about it yet.
Maybe this post will be the kick in the pants Mr. Whirlybits needs... ;)

Actually Scotty asked me to post the information but I haven't got around to setting up the 2006 calendar yet so I am remiss.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner I wanted to check the minutes from the meeting. The plan is to have the event on the Saturday with a rain day on Sunday.
