Hi..
I guess I already know the answer ("there is none") but it doesn't cost much to ask..
By any chance do you know of any decent slope near Ottawa where you can do slope soaring?
Cheers
P.S. I hope I am wrong on this and there is indeed a good place :D

For the records, I got these replies from Louis Dionne and Corey G.
----------------------------------------
The guys from Montreal introduced me to slope soaring many years ago.
We were doing long lunch breaks to go combat off the slope next to the pont Jacques Cartier and many other places.
After that I drove around looking for the spots near the places I lived or traveled to.
Davenport, Sunset beach, Half Moon Bay, Los Banos in California.
Las Vegas hills in a coming storm.
A couple of spots off the coast near Seattle.
The Dunes of Sleeping Bear park with Martin Irvine and Keith Shaw - have your eye lids filled with sand and pebbles in a flash while you plane is zooming in altitude off your hand.
Cape Cod. Leclerville and Glen Mt.
The sand dunes of PEI right off the steps of the rental cottage while the fresh lobster was boiling...
I have since lost quite a lot of interest in sloping. Flying mostly electrics; as electrics has come to maturity.
And like Keith Shaw was saying:"If I had a slope like this (Sleeping Bear Dune park), I would never fly electrics".
In the capital area, I sloped in a number of spots.
Flew a bit at the end of the old ORCC runway. Not worth the trouble.
I flew off the old dump side on the East end. Not worth the trouble.
I flew in the back of the National Gallery off the fenced road...landing on that road in-between cars...touchy.
My buddy John Phillips keeps talking about flying off the Carp dump site as he knows the management there.
I've been thinking about trying the look-out on Sussex road in front of the Gatineau merging within the Ottawa river.
Best so far is off the Champlain look-out.
The lift has nothing to envy to many great spots.
But the trees...
The landing zone is small and hampered by trees and bushes.
Then the trees below love airplanes.
Due to the landing site, the best airplanes for that site are EPP foamies and a hard landing or catch.
Or bring a net to catch planes in.
(Unless we do a bit of tree trimming.)
Bit o f a drive...and the trees have a full set of leaves.
The Carp dump site with a South wind should be excellent.
If you guys organize something, give me a heads up, I'll charge up some of the slope planes picking up dust in the workshop.

I have found a few, but no luck yet with the property owners. Most of them are 1-1.5 hours away anyways so it is almost worthwhile just going to Montreal for their slope sites. Spent some time in the Grob doing aerial recon northeast of town near Calibogie area and there are a few candidates I haven't hike to yet. I'll keep you posted.

"I'm sure there is a large group of flyers in the area that would love the opportunity to try slope soaring if only we could find a suitable site in the area. I have a couple of suitable gliders. One foamy, a combat wing, and one crunchy, a scale ASK 21. I have flown them on a slope next to the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia but never around here. If you find a suitable site, count me in!

I'm new to this forum and I live out in Alta Vista. I usually fly my electrics at the park in front of the General Hospita (Lynda lane park). It's a nice place to fly, but I got myself a 2.5m ASW-28 and now need to find some slope.
Found this picture on the net. Looks like the dump in Carp!!

Hey Tony! I couldn't see the pic, as it didn't load properly, but I wonder if it isn't the pit at Drummond Field.
Is there any reason that might not work? The pit should have some wind whistling through it!

Tyler,
Don't know what happen but the pic is gone. It was from RCGROUPS, I think it is a dump somewhere in the states but it looks exactly like the dump in Carp. I must say though flying on top of a stinking garbage takes away from the environmentally friendly slope flying.
I uploaded the picture this time instead of linking to it.
I'm scooting out the Ottawa area with google earth. There are lots of hills in the Gatineau, but it is just a matter of find the right launch site clear of trees.

I am not familiar with the Drummond Field?
I work in Kanata, and there is a big gravel pit off HWY 7, just south of the 417. Not sure how accessible it is though.
