I have two questions for all those out there:

1)Does anyone know if there is a place locally that can do laser cutting of wood or depron foam?

2) Do you think there could be a market for someone if they say had a laser cutter/engraver and sold depron foam in the Ottawa area?

I think there is a machine shop with a big one for cutting metal in town but I don't know of any small hbby sized ones in the area.

They are pricey machines and you would need to sell and awfull lot of kits to even recoupe the purchase price. They start at $10K and go up from there.

The guy that Ken Park uses is in Northern Quebec http://www.mraerodesign.com/ but I use a guy down in New Mexico http://www.manzanolaser.com/ . He's about half the cost of the Quebec cutter and has better wood.

If you are thinking of selling depron kits than your best way to get started is to have a batch cut by someone else.

Good luck!

I follow alot of the manzano stuff on RCGroups... I especially love his scale electric propeller kits.

How do you find the order and time to deliver from the states is with them and their laser cutting?

I wasn't thinking exclusively a system for model kits, but something to included is services. What is the shipping cost and time approximately. from both the new Mexico and north Quebec locations. they have some nice kits

Manzano is pretty quick with the cutting service and can usually do my job the week I send them the files. Shipping varies but normally I get the package between one and two weeks from when I order. The wood is really good as well. They only do electric kits so they know heavy wood will not do.

The lazer cutting is very nice. I had stuff cut by a shop in Barrie before they folded (and took my money with them) but Manzano is far superior in cut quality and the price is very good.

They are producing and selling my Arrow kit and will have my new Gee Bee Z kit available in a week or so.

I did have a couple orders come with the parts cut from the wrong thickness wood but they cut new parts the same day and sent them out right away at no charge.

Here's a couple links to my build threads for the Arrow and GB so you can see what the parts look like.
